The biggest reason most of us stay stuck in current realities that no longer serve us is we don't create movement. Movement towards something doesn't just magically happen. I seem to remember way back in my brain somewhere that a physicist said, "An object at rest tends to stay at rest and and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force." Ah, yes, good old Isaac Newton knew what he was talking about and it doesn't just apply to physical objects.
The fairly new phenomenon of "binge-watching" is a great case and point! What happens when you have an entire season of a favorite show in your cue? "Just one more," is what happens until the entire day is gone and you have stayed up way too late and all you want to do is crash into bed. An object at rest tends to stay at rest applies here as well as an object on a certain trajectory remains on that trajectory unless something jolts them out of the binge-watching trance. Get it? Good!
When we create positive movement, we set the course for generating more positive movement off of each movement we generate. Like begets like.
Here's the secret: Movement towards a new reality MUST be created.
There is no other way to create a new reality. You can't wait for it to appear. You can't wish for it. You can't keep on with the same old and expect a sudden shift one day. You must choose to create.
But what about people in my way or other agendas or situational blocks?
Good question and here's the simple answer: Once you start the movement and commit to the movement, everything blocking your way will either resolve seemingly on its own or the resolution will be apparent to you.
Why is that the case? Because the Universe or God or whatever name you give that force that holds everything together really likes cooperation. I call that force God and I have come to understand sending up prayers without any commitment on my part is pretty pointless. God desires a partnership with me. I must contribute in order for this to work. If God just hands me a new reality that I have not prepared for in some way, I will most likely waste the opportunities found in that reality.
How is movement created? Start with what was discussed in last week's blog: Get negative. Practice those mindset shifts. That will begin the movement process.
Next, tackle your limiting beliefs about yourself. Write out a list of at least 5 limiting beliefs you have about yourself that block this new reality. For example, if you want to be a writer and you refer to yourself as a person who thinks I can write, there is a limiting belief there. Shift from thinking you can write to believing you are a great writer.
The creative movement doesn't stop with recognizing limiting beliefs. Create an action step that supports the limiting belief you shifted. Now that you choose to believe you are a great writer, join a writer's group or hire an editor or start a blog or submit your writing as a guest contributor or take a class on writing.
Mindset + Action = Creative Movement
Creative Movement = A New Reality
It won't happen over night. It takes practice and persistence. It takes keeping tabs on those limiting beliefs and reminding yourself of the shift. It takes attention and time and love. It takes committing to the process and trusting the process even when the new reality seems elusive.
